My sister’s DIY project: Ceramic Tile Mosaic Table Top

I wrote HERE a few weeks ago that my sister made a beautiful terrace table. Well, her husband actually bought a steel table frame and she made her own ceramic tile mosaic table top.

For making a ceramic tile mosaic table top you need: a table frame, a pencil, different ceramic tiles, a (small) hammer, silicone, a spirit level, grout (in color) and a squeegee, a rag or two.

I think you can use or reuse different kinds of table frames. And this DIY project is also a great way to use or reuse old ceramic tiles.

So, here comes what my sister did:

First she drew the sunflower and the lines.

She broke the ceramic tiles into small pieces with a hammer. (She wrapped them in a towel and bashed them lightly with a hammer.) She also used some (old) pieces without breaking them (the blue frame around the sunflower).

She placed the ceramic tiles one by one, gluing (with silicone) each tile individually. She used a spirit level to make sure the table top was level. It took her several hours to make this mosaic.

Then she applied blue grout in between the tiles with a squeegee.

She wiped the mosaic with a towel and her project was finished.

Quite simple, don’t you think?
