Homemade Chocolate

Chocolate is always good. But, every food is better (and probably more healthy), when you make it yourself, right?

All you need to make your own chocolate is: 4 cups of powdered milk, 2 cups of chocolate or cacao powder, 4/5 cup of water, 5 cups of (brown) sugar, 1 cup of butter and 10 minutes time.

If you use cacao powder (instead of chocolate powder), the chocolate will turn out darker and a little less sweet. Of course, you can also add some other ingredients like honey, raisins, dried fruits and hazelnuts. I don’t add anything extra, because (just) milk chocolate is my favorite type of chocolate.

And here is what you have to do: Cook water, butter and sugar in a saucepan until boiling and let it boil for about 2 to 3 minutesor until a foam forms at the top. In a bigger bowl, mix together powdered milk and chocolate (or cacao) powder. Then pour the boiled mixture over it and stir well and quickly (for a minute or two) to avoid lumps. (Now you can add your extras, if you want.) When the mixture is smooth (and free of lumps), pour it onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet and spread evenly. Put it in a cold place or in the fridge for a few hours (or overnight). Then cut it into squares with a knife or use a cookie cutter. Or, make it even simpler – just break the chocolate into pieces.

Oh. So. Good! If you make it once, you’ll make it again.
