It’s a love hate thing I have with vanilla scent. I don’t like it, if it’s too sweet, too strong. And I love it, when it’s soft, clean and gentle – not too sweet. So, I didn’t know if I was going to like the final result of this DIY project – homemade vanilla eau de toilette. Now, I know and I’m happy to share the tutorial with you. I love it.
You need: 3 vanilla beans, ½ cup vodka and 1½ cup distilled water, a jar (smaller size), a bottle (at least 2 cup volume),a funnel, some cloth to filter out the tiny vanilla bits and storage bottles.
Split the vanilla beans lengthwise with a sharp knife. Place them in the jar and fill the jar with vodka. Close the jar tightly and let it sit for (five days to) a week.
After a week: place the funnel in the (clean!) bottle, cloth on top (as seen in photo above) and pour vodka in the bottle. Then add distilled water. Your vanilla eau de toilette is done. Store it in small bottles
Vanilla has many aromatherapy benefits, including being an aphrodisiac and a weight loss aid. Hmm… Maybe I should make more of this… ;)
